Udine Valentines Dinner February 20, 2007

Filed under: Uncategorized — samsammy @ 10:10 am

On Saturday, February 10, we enjoyed a lovely Valentines Dinner with fellow missionaries in Udine as well as with many unbelievers. This was a wonderful outreach in which we enjoyed dinner, dessert and conversation. We each invited a couple to attend and thankfully, twenty-five nonbelievers attended. It was wonderful to get to know them better and to share a meal with them. Already many have asked why we would serve a free meal without expecting anything in return. In serving them, we were able to share the love that God shows us. We also shared a short message with them on marriage and relationships and what God desires for each. When the dinner was concluded, we handed out Bibles and a small gift bag filled with Valentine candies that were sent from America. Overall, it was a wonderful night and we were very happy to have made so many new friends. Please pray with us that these relationships will continue to grow in the future.

Setting Up Shop January 23, 2007

Hello Friends and Family. We are glad to be writing our first blog in Italy, the first of many. Again, this is a way for us to keep you posted on what is happening here. We have not yet been here 2 weeks but we are happy to have settled on an apartment in a small town called San Vito. God has been very gracious in supplying us with a house this soon. The apartment is located directly in the town square and is right above a quaint little gelateria (ice cream shop). Though our belongings have not yet arrived from the states, we are happy to have a place to call our own. It will be a wonderful place to show hospitality to others. As soon as we can, we will post some pictures of our “home.” A few days ago, we signed our lease and met our landlord. Believe it or not, here in Italy they require a 3 months deposit for rent as well as a fee for the agency that rents out the house, which is equal to a month’s rent so it’s a hefty start-up price. This is when our outgoing expenses that we raised come in handy. We will be moving in on January 24th. We are still looking for a reliable used car and hope to find and purchase one soon.

On February 2nd, the Saints Bible Institute students will arrive. This semester we have a record high of 21 students! Please pray for their safe arrival and for a fruitful semester. We are anticipating a very full and busy semester. There are also several outreaches planned for the Udine church in the near future. Feel free to leave comments and/or questions. Hope you all are well.

To those of you who are unfamiliar with blogging, the purpose of this page is to keep family, friends and supporters “in the loop” by giving you up to date news, prayer requests and photos of ministry here in Italy. From time to time, we will also give you our thoughts on life in a foreign country, including funny/awkward cultural experiences, personal struggles and growth. We hope that you will find this blog helpful in keeping in touch with us and in knowing how to pray for us. You will also be able to post comments for us, which will be a great way to keep in contact with you. Thanks and enjoy the page!
